At Redcup Code, we believe that great conversations are at the heart of meaningful work — and yesterday’s SAP Stammtisch in Hout Bay was a perfect example of that. Held at The Dunes during a characteristically wet Cape Town winter evening, the event brought together a small but engaged group of SAP professionals. With seven attendees — including freelancers, project managers, and company owners — the atmosphere was relaxed, open, and full of insights. And yes, the Glühwein was served in glasses, not mugs.
The casual setting and the view over Hout Bay created just the right environment for in-depth exchange. While the recent Cape Town fires and other local topics surfaced, most of the discussion centered around pressing themes from the SAP ecosystem:
- Cloud vs. On-Premise: What makes the most sense for customers today? The group discussed trade-offs between flexibility, cost control, and long-term system ownership.
- SAP Fioneer: We explored the role of this SAP spin-off in the financial services sector, why it was created, and what it means for industry-specific innovation.
- SAP’s current retrenchment wave: A topic that resonates globally. We reflected on how restructuring affects not only employees but also project teams and partner networks — including here in South Africa.
As the evening came to a close, the group agreed to create a dedicated WhatsApp group — a simple but effective step to stay in touch, plan upcoming meetups, and grow the local SAP network in Cape Town.

SAP Stammtisch: Why It Matters to Redcup Code
We founded Redcup Code to bring experience, curiosity, and community back into SAP projects — especially in the Customer Experience space. Events like the Stammtisch are a reminder that the real strength of this ecosystem lies in its people: their stories, their ideas, and their willingness to share.
Whether you’re deep into S/4HANA, exploring SAP BTP, or just SAP-curious — join us next time. Let’s talk about what’s happening in the industry, in your projects, and in our city. You can read more on our SAP Stammtisch in the SAP Community or read more on the next planned events for 2025.
Until then — stay dry, stay curious, and see you at the next Stammtisch.
